The project explores the route of the #30 bus line in San Salvador. It addresses the feeling of violence that bus users, especially drivers, encounter, highlighting a latent presence—an atmosphere of unease that is not directly visible but is deeply felt.
The country is dominated by violence that permeates the daily lives of people across all social and economic classes. Taking a bus is not an ordinary experience for anyone; tranquility is not a typical condition for passengers, and even less so for drivers who face daily risks without knowing if they will be safe by the end of their shift. They drive, often unaware if the bus line owner has paid the extortion fees demanded by street gangs to secure the right to operate each bus line.
Through a narrative inside and around the buses, the workspace that drivers have appropriated is revealed as a means of safeguarding themselves. The project captures two distinct moments: just before they begin their uncertain workday and at the end of their “reliever” shift.
